What is Wagerless?
Wagerless means that no bet needs to be placed to play the game, and it most often appears to describe free spins on slot games. Some online casinos offer wagerless spins as a loyalty reward for players, with spins earned much the same way as loyalty points on other sites. These wagerless spins are assigned a set coin value, and can be accumulated and played under the terms and conditions of a site’s promotional offer.
Wagerless can also refer to wagerless casinos, which are online casinos that allow players to join, play and withdraw their money with no wagering requirements.
In essence, wagerless spins or bets are freebies earned by a player for taking part in a game. The term is also used to describe any form of free spin, such as those earned in a slot game’s bonus round, but it applies most often to promotional free spins given away by online casinos. When a player opts to make a wagerless spin, they are spending no money – but the spin is in live play and prizes can be won as a result.
Some casino brands use wagerless spins as a welcome bonus or as a loyalty reward. Players qualify for the spins by signing up, making a deposit and meeting that site’s specific wagering requirements. Wagerless spins might be awarded automatically as a bulk quantity – for example, getting 25 free spins for a £10 initial deposit – or they might be accumulated over time.
Where wagerless spins are used instead of reward points, players qualify for each spin with play and deposits over time. A meter accumulates the level of play until a certain marker is reached, and then a wagerless spin is awarded. These can be collected and used at once, or the player can play them immediately. Wagerless spins are usually limited to a particular game, or set of games.
More recently there have been a number of specifically ‘wagerless casinos’ enter the online casino market. These are casinos that have no set wagering requirements that players must adhere to in order to play specific games or, more importantly, withdraw their winnings.
The term is not exclusive to slot games. Any game which offers a bonus turn with no money laid down can be described as ‘wagerless’. For example, some online casinos offer a daily free game of bingo or a chance to play a hand of poker, with cash prizes available. Though these games do not require a wager, players usually have to meet certain conditions – such as depositing a minimum amount in the previous 24 hours.
