‘Steve Wynn’ Explained
Born in Connecticut in 1942, Wynn was educated and raised in New York. His father worked in the casino industry as the owner and manager of a chain of bingo halls, which were left in significant debt when the senior Wynn passed away. His son, pegged to be a lawyer and accepted to Yale, instead took his career in a different direction and assumed ownership of his father’s business. Wynn turned the flagging bingo chain around and made a success of it, which led him into the world of casino ownership and management. He bought into a Las Vegas casino and made a success of it, which set his career path forever.
Through the 1960s and 1970s, Wynn expanded his casino empire and went from a minor stakeholder in small ventures to the proprietor of several major casino brands across Atlantic City and Las Vegas. These famous venues include the Golden Nugget brand, the Mirage casino hotel, and also the Beau Rivage in Mississippi. The businessman also owns and operates Wynn Resorts, which encompasses many of the casino brands along with hotels and entertainment services. Today Wynn is one of America’s wealthiest men and he still retains major interests in much of the US casino scene, as well as becoming known in the art world as a significant collector and contributor.
