What is ‘10 Dice Game’?
In the simplest sense, a ’10 dice game’ is any variant of a dice betting game or scoring game which uses ten dice per roll. The phrase can also refer to a form of Yahtzee which uses ten dice instead of the standard five. There is a game known as the ‘Phase 10 Dice Game’, which is a fast dice-based form of the Phase 10 card game. Players roll ten dice per turn and aim to complete sets of dice, marking off the phases of the game as they are reached until a single player completes all ten requirements.
‘10 Dice Game’ Explained
Dice games – games played with one or more six-sided numbered cubes – have been popular in land-based casinos and as a social activity for thousands of years. The earliest confirmed dice players lived around 2500 BCE according to archaeological finds, though historic texts place their use back even further than this.
Today, dice games are less popular due to the growth of modern casino games like poker, roulette and slot machines – especially as these translate better to electronic versions which are played online. However, there are still some very well known dice games and often casinos will still offer one or two options for players. Craps is probably the best known modern game which uses dice.
A ’10 dice game’ can be loosely used to describe any game modified to include ten dice. Games such as Liar’s Dice, where players bluff over the quantity of a number they rolled, can include up to ten dice in a turn. Yahtzee is another dice game which can be modified to include ten dice – players must collect sets of matching numbers, and ultimately aim to roll a full set of the same number. The term also applies to a version the ‘Phase 10’ game which is modified to use cards instead of dice. In Phase 10, players must complete ten sets through a series of rolls before any other player achieves this.
