What are ‘Maximum Credits’?
Maximum credits is a phrase often used in conjunction with video poker. Every video poker machine has a button that reads “Play Maximum Credits”, and it is the button the player pushes to enable them to receive a new hand and bet the maximum amount.
‘Maximum Credits’ Explained
Video poker machines can now be found in nearly every significantly sized casino across the globe. Each of these machines has a button reading “Play Maximum Credits”, and the player who pushes this button wishes to deal a brand new hand as well as bet the maximum amount allowed.
The player who doesn’t push this button and who therefore doesn’t play maximum credits will not qualify for the largest jackpots available on that machine. For this reason, it is recommended that players always push this button to enable themselves to win the most that they possibly can.
In the United States, most video poker machines that require 25 cents as a minimum credit set their maximum credits as five.
While it is recommended that the gambler always plays maximum credits, it is wise to consider only playing minimum credits when their chosen machine has only a small pay out possibility.
Some players of video poker can fall into the trap of only ever hitting the “Play One Credit” button instead of pushing the “Play Maximum Credits” button. This impulse is known as a hunch or superstition, in which the player believes that selecting the former option as opposed to the latter option of playing maximum credits will give them a higher chance of winning on that specific machine, while not using up all their credits at once.
As aforementioned, however, using up all of your credits at once is perhaps the most beneficial game strategy, as it qualifies the player for the chance of winning the jackpot.
