International Association of Gaming Regulators

What is the ‘International Association of Gaming Regulators’?

The International Association of Gaming Regulators is an international organisation which regulates gambling authorities in individual nations. The group sets standards which gaming control boards and gambling commissions must meet in order to be approved for membership, and it offers support services and regulatory checks to ensure its members can attain and keep to those standards. The International Association of Gaming Regulators also hosts conferences and workshops for members which focus on the gambling industry and its performance each year.

‘International Association of Gaming Regulators’ Explained

Since 2010, the International Association of Gaming Regulators has operated as an independent regulator which is responsible for overseeing the individual gambling regulatory bodies for each country. The national regulators, such as the UK’s Gambling Commission or the Gaming Control Boards belonging to individual US states, are all overseen by the authority of the International Association of Gaming Regulators.

The gaming control boards and commissions themselves are responsible for all legislation and law setting surrounding gambling, as well as providing advisory information for government agencies and ensuring the safe and fair operation of games. These duties are performed in association with the national government and also any relevant local authorities and civil departments. Every country which permits gambling by law should have some form of legislative body, such as a gambling commission, which looks after the interests of gamblers and game operators.

These boards and commissions are able to sign up as members of the International Association of Gaming Regulators and, upon approval, they are allowed to display the IAGR’s logo. Membership of the association relies on the joining party adhering to the rules of conduct and meeting the targets and expectations of the group. Countries and jurisdictions who do not operate gambling fairly or safely will be denied membership or have their member status withdrawn.
