Gamstop

What is Gamstop?

Gamstop, often written as GAMSTOP or GamStop, is a self-exclusion program for UK gamblers which is due to launch in early 2018. The program is operated by the Remote Gambling Association (RGA).

Gamstop allows players to sign up with the service and opt out of all online casino services with one step.

This includes mobile app based gaming. Gamstop is currently in the testing phase and players can sign up to try out the software prior to the service’s launch.

Gamstop Explained

Gamstop is an initiative developed by the Remote Gambling Association, which will launch in Spring 2018. It provides UK gamblers with a one-step process for self-excluding from all gambling services, including websites and applications.

It instantly blocks the player from accessing all gambling services currently available – and all those which could be available in the future. New gaming services that launch will automatically be added to the Gamstop list.

Gamstop has been developed to tackle the growing rate of problem gambling within the UK.

Many problem gamblers are now thought to be using their computer and mobile devices to access gambling services, and it is far harder to intervene in problem gambling when there is not face-to-face contact between staff and players.

However, operators can sign up to self-exclusion schemes – as well as offering their own – in order to protect gamblers.

The service is currently at the trial stage, and requesting volunteers to take part in testing the system. It is scheduled to launch next year, at which point any player can opt in at any time to exclude themselves from all gambling.

Gamstop will also provide additional support for gamblers, including links to a range of Responsible Gaming resources and advice on managing a gambling habit safely.
