What is Cooler?
The term cooler is used to describe a deck of cards that seems to have been fixed to either slow down or prevent a winning streak from taking its full course.
The blackjack cooler is typically a pack of cards that has been specifically arranged prior to the game, and they are usually found to appear in games using 6 or 8 decks. Dishonest teams use coolers after having colluded with dealers and pit bosses to ensure their insertion, and they replace another card deck in the shoe.
It must be made clear that colluding with dealers, casino management, or both to ensure your own win is cheating, and all those found to be involved in such a serious felony will be prosecuted.
The effect of a blackjack cooler can occur suddenly. For the bettor to expect an enormous win, only to have their suspected win never come to fruition, is exceptionally frustrating. There is still some debate as to whether coolers actually exist, or whether the casino bosses set them up intentionally in order to create a cold deck and slow down hot streaks and reduce their losses.
Another non-blackjack definition for the word cooler refers to a person whose demeanour is so awful they can make a hot table ‘cold’ just by sitting at it. There is also some debate as to whether this phenomenon is possible, with some arguing that nothing anyone else does can significantly affect one single player’s game.
