What is a ‘Comp Program’?
A ‘comp program’ is a loyalty scheme or reward system operated by a casino. It gives players access to different rewards and bonuses, based on their level of play. Land based casinos and online casinos both offer comp programs of some description. Many of these programs have their own name, such as ‘Member’s Club’ or ‘VIP scheme‘.
‘Comp Program’ Explained
In casino culture, players are treated well by the house during their play, in order to keep that player spending and having a good time at the tables. Rewards can range from free drinks and bar snacks to nights in luxury hotel suites and visits to exclusive entertainment venues. These rewards are known as ‘comps’, which is a shortened form of ‘complimentary items’ or similar. They are given based on a tier system, which is laid out according to individual play levels.
For many online casinos, the comp program is automatic and rewards are handed out based on play. These rewards might be cash bonuses or loyalty points, free spins or access to promotional games. Some online comp programs also give out physical gifts like prize hampers and tickets to sporting events.
In a traditional casino venue, comps are often services available within the casino. They are sometimes given to anyone in live play, or they may be based on the amount of money being spent at the venue. Often a casino will track the play of an individual – with their permission, of course! This helps the establishment determine the right level of comps to be awarded. The very best rewards are reserved for the VIP members of the program – those who spend the most time and money playing the casino’s games, and who have shown the most loyalty to the brand overall.
