What is ‘Chameleon Strategy’?
In gaming, particularly card games, it can appear that other players have particular strategies that bring them success. If you follow a chameleon strategy, you would watch what these players did and then mimic them in the hope of achieving the same good results. This phrase can be used when playing roulette, craps, poker or any other game. As well as being used with respect to imitating good gaming strategies, a chameleon strategy may be one that’s enacted in the board room, on the battlefield or during a sporting event. If you’re imitating the actions of someone more successful in the hope that you will get similar outcomes, you’re adopting a chameleon strategy.
‘Chameleon Strategy’ Explained
It’s easy to see how the chameleon strategy got its name – essentially, others mimic the play of a winning player in the same way as a chameleon mimics the colour of its surroundings.
Obviously, this technique is no good for online play, but if you notice that someone at the table is doing well, following their betting pattern may allow you to cash in on their good luck or skill by ending up with some winnings.
One of the major advantages of the chameleon strategy is that it doesn’t require any mathematical knowledge or particular gaming skill to execute. Simply observe the other players until it becomes clear who’s doing well, then do what they’re doing! If the player you’ve chosen to imitate is actually skilled at play, you may well end up with an advantage.
If their early wins are mainly down to luck, you may not end up obtaining any significant benefit from adopting the chameleon strategy. Particularly if you’re relatively new to gaming, or just want some sort of plan to follow at the table, the chameleon strategy may be worth a go.
