What is a ‘Ball Drawing Device’?
A ball drawing device – otherwise known as a ball draw machine – is a piece of equipment that mechanically mixes up several numbered, plastic balls.
These numbered balls are then randomly drawn from the scrambled mix of other balls. When selected and drawn, they will be announced to the players of the given game. These balls determine the winning numbers, and therefore the winners of the game who have matched these numbers.
‘Ball Drawing Device’ Explained
Otherwise known as ball draw machine or a blower, the ball drawing device is a machine used in games such as Keno, lotto, and bingo. These devices use forced air to mix the numbers up randomly and select them so that they can then be announced to the players.
In bingo and Keno games, these balls are numbered and correspond to the numbers potentially noted on the players’ number slips (depending on the numbers chosen by the players). If the balls selected by the ball drawing device match the numbers the players have listed on their slips (usually 20 numbers between one and around 90), they can win a payout. Typically, the jackpot amount is reserved for the first person to have all their numbers crossed off.
In some casinos, more than one ball drawing device can be used in any given Keno or bingo game.
In lotto, the ball drawing device will mix up the numbers and select only around six numbers. If the player has staked a wager on a specific set of six numbers and they have an exact match, they will win the jackpot (or share it equally if there is more than one winner). Players who have matched five, four, or three numbers are typically eligible for a smaller payout.
Because of the smaller number selection, only one of these machines is required in lotto games.
Ball drawing devices are generally deemed to be trustworthy and fair, though computer-based number generators are now starting to replace these across the board.
