What is ‘Aces and Faces?’
Aces and Faces simply means a combination of aces and any of the face cards – Jacks, Queens, or Kings. Representing an extremely strong hand in poker, it’s a highly desirable hand to get. However, more often, the term ‘Aces and Faces’ refers to a specific type of video poker, a variant of 8/5 Jacks or Better which grants a bonus for any four of a kind involving Ace or Face cards.
‘Aces and Faces’ Explained
Aces and Faces is a variant of the popular 8/5 Jacks or Better video poker games found in both land based and online casinos. You’ll be dealt five cards from one deck and have a choice on which cards to hold or discard and replace with other random cards from the same deck to get the best hand possible. The better the hand, the larger your payout. The ‘8/5’ signifies the payout for a full house and a flush, respectively – you’ll get eight times your stake for a full house, and five times for a flush. As the name implies, to get a payout, you’ll need to get a pair of Jacks or any higher-scoring poker hand to get a payout.
The difference with Aces and Faces is, simply, an increased reward for hands of four of a kind with an Ace, King, Queen or Jack. In general, the 8/5 payout table is a low one, and the combination of the Aces and Faces bonus makes chasing high-scoring hands more viable than trying to continually rack up small wins. This changes the strategy of the game, as it becomes a better plan to pursue four or a kind long shots than in an ordinary game of video poker.
