The woman, who is in her sixties and has been identified only as Rebecca, landed an $805,329.80 jackpot at the Wildwood Casino in Cripple Creek on Friday, which represents the biggest single win in the casino’s history.

The winner, who was at the casino with her father, celebrating his birthday, said that she had been playing cards, but having had little luck, switched to the casino’s slot machines.

She had put around $26 dollars into the Wheel of Fortune progressive jackpot machine when she landed the big prize.

The double-win recalls a similar stroke of fortune earlier this year when a woman in the UK landed $1.42 million and $807,000 jackpots within the space of a month playing Star Lanterns, another progressive jackpot game. Progressive jackpot slots games, in which the jackpot builds every time the game is played, can produce huge payouts.

Early retirement

According to Rebecca, she had bought her winning Powerball ticket back in December 2007 from a liquor store in the Black Forest area.

Her $1 million enabled her to finish renovating her basement and the remainder was invested, but thanks to her new prize, she plans to retire early from her job at an insurance company and pay off her mortgage. She says that she is still buying Powerball tickets every week and that she plans to return to the Wildwood.

A press release from the Wildwood Casino described the win as potentially the largest in the history of Cripple Creek. It broke the previous casino record of $678,198, which had been set back in 2011, and Wildwood Gaming Director Mike Chaput put the size of the win in context.

“I’ve been in the gaming industry in this town for 26 years and have never seen a jackpot of this size. What a fun day for all who were involved.”

Land-based casino classic Wheel of Fortune is also available to play at online casinos. LeoVegas, for example, has four different versions of the slot.
