Betway Casino have cut their odds on the Nessie existence market from 5000/1 to 500/1 after a lecturer at Lancaster University claims to have spotted what has been described as an unexplained fin shape in a series of photographs snapped by her son Sam, while they were on a holiday in the Loch Ness area.
Dr Jo Knight forwarded the photograph to the official Loch Ness Monster Sightings register, which undertakes to investigate and catalogue alleged sightings of the beast, which was first mentioned by Irish monk Saint Columba in 565.
According to the recorder of the register, Gary Campbell, the image could well be a picture of Nessie. Campbell said that this latest confirmed sighting was the eighth of 2017, making it the busiest year for Nessie encounters in this century.
As a result of their downward odds adjustment, Betway’s official position is that there is more chance of Nessie’s existence being proven than there is of royal couple William and Kate naming their baby Wayne, at 750-1.
Other eventualities deemed less likely are AFC Wimbledon winning the FA Cup (750/1) and New Zealand winning the 2018 World Cup.
Experts at the Loch Ness register were said to be divided on whether shape seen in the photograph taken by Dr Knight’s son should be considered an official sighting.
A number of members of the register felt it was either a wave or an animal, but the photograph was eventually accepted as a sighting. According to Mr Campbell, 2017 has brought the most Nessie sightings for over twenty years:
“In recent years the most sightings in a year we have had is 17 – and that was in 1996. Before that the 1960s and 1930s were the times that had most sightings – sometimes more that 20 in a year.”Gary Campbell
