NetEnt has teased its new game Universal Monsters: The Phantom’s Curse – a 5×4 slot game based on classic novel and musical The Phantom of the Opera.

See the preview below:

The title was previously slated for a summer release, but it would have clashed with Microgaming’s own Phantom-inspired slot game.

The Phantom’s Curse is a visual treat with a host of bonus features, and advanced animations.

Stunning game could take slots world by storm

With a big ticket title like Phantom of the Opera, it is no surprise to see NetEnt putting a big effort into the visuals.

The graphics and cutaways rival top console video games, with realistic characters and extremely detailed settings. The result is an intense gaming atmosphere, complemented with the classic soundtrack and animated reels.

The invisible game reels are set against an empty theater, with symbols free-falling into the play screen. Reels approaching a potential bonus will glow and pulse, highlighting where the big wins could be found.

Symbols in the game are styled in a 1920s design, and the game features jewellery, flowers and story characters as well as playing card suit symbols.

Storylines play out as standalone scenes, which start when the game first opens and when a bonus game is launched. These animations make Phantom’s Curse stand out from the crowd, with display work among the best currently seen in slots.

Features and bonuses

But how does it play?

The game mechanics are similar to previous 5×4 slots by NetEnt, with a series of bonus features launched by symbols in the base game.

Masked phantom symbols launch respins while scatters create instant wins.

Characters from the story serve as wild, and can become sticky wilds during respins. Finally, there are two bonus rounds: a click and collect game based on mirrors, and a free spins round which only ends if the Phantom successfully cuts all the chandelier’s ropes to bring the house down.

Game delays due to title clash

The Phantom’s Curse is not the only Phantom of the Opera slot to arrive in 2017.

Earlier this summer, as NetEnt announced plans for the game under the working title ‘The Phantom of the Opera’, Microgaming launched its own take on the movie with a game of the same name.

But with a new title worked in – along with some game enhancements there is likely to be room for both in the market.

It has been a big year for NetEnt, with some important additions to their slot portfolio.

While The Phantom’s Curse was on hold this fall, the developer released its innovative 10-reel take on the Planet of the Apes movie series.

The game is another example of NetEnt’s design abilities, and it is one of the most high-energy slot games on the market today.

NetEnt slots are available at a vast range of online casinos, with Powerspins Casino, Casumo, bgo and LeoVegas among those offering NetEnt games for cash or demoplay.

The game isn’t ready to play yet, but is currently down for an early 2018 release.
