Mother of two Mavis Wanczyk now richer than Beyoncé after scooping $758 million Powerball jackpot

  • The win makes Mavis Wanczyk richer than some members of the Trump family
  • The $758.7 million jackpot is the second-largest amount ever given away by the United States Powerball

When Casinopedia reported yesterday that one lucky US Powerball player had won the record-breaking jackpot of $758.7 million, their identity was unknown.

But now, the winner has been revealed.

According to the Massachusetts State Lottery, the lucky jackpot winner is Mavis Wanczyk, a 53-year-old woman from Chicopee Massachusetts.

She takes away the full prize, as nobody else matched all six numbers – and she revealed she would be quitting her job at a local hospital.

She described the epic win as a “pipe dream,” claiming that she couldn’t have missed the chance to play on Wednesday. This win makes her wealthier than some of the world’s most renowned celebrities.

She takes home $480 million, or $336 million after taxes, officials for the lottery state – a new record for the Powerball

She could have taken the full amount, but this would have been paid over a 29 year period.

’Richer than Johnny Depp’

These celebrities include Johnny Depp, Brad Pitt, Beyoncé, Kim Kardashian, Taylor Swift, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Jennifer Lawrence, who Wanczuk is now four times richer than.

Jared and Ivanka Trump also now have less money than 53-year-old Wanczyk.

She never guessed that after buying her ticket at the Pride Station and Store in Chicopee, MA, she would have matched all numbers – which were 6, 7, 16, 23, and 26, with a Powerball of 4.

The story of the win

A medical worker at the Chicopee Medical Center, the 53-year-old claimed that she bought three tickets at the convenience store: two of which were quick-pick tickets, which comprise randomly selected numbers, and one of which contained her own self-picked numbers. It was this one that won her the jackpot.

Wanczyk, who was with a colleague when she found out that she had won the second-biggest Powerball jackpot ever, has said that she is in “shock.”

This is hardly surprising given the extremely slim chances of winning, which are said to be around 1 in 292.2 million.

Wanczyk was not the only winner, though, despite the fact that she claimed the jackpot. An estimated 9,397,723 Powerball players also won smaller prizes, which are thought to total around $134,981,575.

Two of these players, both of whom are from Massachusetts as well, won $1 million prizes in Wednesday’s draw.

Maybe next time

Now that the $758.7 million jackpot has been given away, it will reset to $40 million for the next draw, for which Powerball employees are estimating that 170 million tickets will be purchased for.
