- Barcelona’s Neymar Jr reported to heading to PSG for reported world record €222m
- Numerous book-makers including Paddy Power running multiple transfer special offers
We are in the midst of footballs silly season and clubs (especially in the Premier League) are set to smash transfer records once again as the Premier League alone edges towards the £1 billion mark.
However, one of the biggest stories of the window so far is outside of the Premier League and involves the pending transfer of Barcelona’s Brazilian attacker Neymar Jr who is the centre of an eye watering €222 million bid by French giants Paris St Germain.
It appears that Neymar is keen on the move with reports claiming the 25-year-old has flown to Qatar to meet the club’s owners to finalise a deal.
The transfer has an Aire of ‘if’ not ‘when’ and Irish book maker Paddy Power Casino agree making the Brazilian superstar odds on at 1/8 to complete the biggest transfer in football history. However, he is not the only one reported to be on the move.
Premier League deals waiting to be done
The English Premier League season gets back underway a week on Friday with Arsenal v Leicester kicking things off.
The Gunners have recently been the talk of the window after the signing of Alexandre Lacazette from Lyon for an undisclosed fee, however, now the talk has turned to who is leaving the Emirates as opposed to who else may be coming through the door.
Winger/central midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is rumoured to be surplus to requirements by manager Arsene Wenger and the 23-year-old is being linked with a host of clubs.
Chelsea are 15/8 to land the winger with Liverpool at 5/1 with the Irish Bookmaker. However, the favourite is that he will stay with the North Londoners at 8/13.
Mesut Ozil is an outside target for Barcelona but looks unlikely to leave if the Ox heads out of the door and is a distant 14/1 to join the Catalans.
Perisic saga nearly at an end
Inter Milan winger Ivan Perisic has made it pretty clear he wants out of the Serie A side with Manchester United his likely destination.
The possible transfer (which has rumbled on for some time now) looks like it could soon be coming to its conclusion despite Inter manager Luciano Spalletti claiming he wants to keep the winger.
That claim may be too little to late and the deal is likely to get over the line sooner rather than later in order to give Inter a chance to sign a replacement.
The book makers agree with 28-year-old Perisic odds on at 1/2 to sign for Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United before the 1st September with the Irish online casino.
Premier League approaching the £1 billion mark
As of a few days ago, Premier League clubs had spent a total of £867 million in this summer window, with the signings of strikers topping the list at a total £229.5m of the £867m.
Scarily, there is still a month to go before the window slams shut and with the above deals still to get over the line, expect Premier League spending to easily break the billion-pound mark, possibly as soon as this week.
