Famous movie franchises seem to be a very tempting proposition for slot developers, as we see more and more cult film classics turned into casino slots.

Highlander is coming to online casinos as Microgaming continues to target big franchises to inspire its slots.

The latest such development comes from Microgaming after obtaining the license for the Highlander franchise through the deal brokered by Creative Licensing Corporation and are currently in the process of developing a slot based on the original movie.

Set in New York during the 1980s and old Scotland, Highlander follows the story of Connor MacLeod, an immortal swordsman who is one of the two remaining members of his clan.

As you’d expect, MacLeod has to confront his fellow immortal The Kurgan and defeat him by decapitation to take over his powers.

Directed by Russel Mulcahy and starring Christopher Lambert, Highlander was released in 1986 and it quickly became a movie classic that survived in the memory of film fans over the years.

Now, three decades later, Microgaming has taken it upon themselves to bring Connor MacLeod back in all of his power.

Staying through to the original

As usually, the company plans to stay true to the original movie as much as possible, with the recognizable soundtrack, a classic movie poster, and probably some cut scenes to round up the experience.

If previous Microgaming slots are anything to go by, we can expect the game will do justice to the original film.

According to David Reynolds of Microgaming, due to its action-packed plot, exciting scenery, and rock inspired composition, Highlander offers a lot of material for developers to work with, and they are already well into the process.

Players can expect to find all of the famous faces featured on the reels of this 243-ways slot, including MacLeod (Lambert), Brenda Wyatt (Roxane Hart), and The Kurgan (Clancy Brown).

The game will give players a chance to revisit their heroes and remember the epic adventure, but this time around they’ll get to play a more active role.

Where you can play

According to the company, the Highlander slot should hit virtual shelves of online casinos on Wednesday, December 6.

We expect it will be immediately available at a number of Microgaming casinos such as Jackpot City, LeoVegas, Casumo and Betsafe.
