- Casino group, Kindred Group is to fund a new app to help bettors
- The ‘therapy app’ will be launched in the Nordic countries
The mobile app is being designed to help problem gamblers and will provide practical tips and solutions to enable them to make better decisions and be aware of any potential issues that they may develop.
There’s no word yet on whether the app itself will be gamified in any way, but it’s reported that it will contain links to gambling resources, general information and therapeutic exercises.
Initially targeted at the Nordic market
Initially, the app will be targeted at the Nordic market, with Swedish, Norwegian, Finnish and Danish punters the first audience to be able to option it.
These Scandinavian countries are known for their fondness of wagering, with Sweden in particular seeing a steady increase in popularity. Details of how the app can provide practical solutions to what is a multifaceted problem will become apparent in time.
While all gaming operators are obliged to encourage responsible gambling, and to provide information on therapy and support, it is a positive to see a well-known name like Kindred Group appear firmly committed to doing its bit to help out and to ease the personal and societal burden inflicted by addiction.
Help thousands of people
Pedro Romero, the head of Gambling Therapy, which is developing the app with the aid of Kindred Group, said: “We are delighted with Kindred’s support to further develop the Gambling Therapy app, which will further help thousands of people struggling with their gambling.
“It is widely recognised within the industry that Kindred Group is a leader in Player Protection; this is thanks to the company’s commitment, its engagement and their Responsible Gambling team.”
The Stockholm based Kindred Group, which was formerly known as Unibet Group, is a huge online operator with 13 brands to their name including Stan James, 32Red and Maria Casino.
There are few gaming spheres that the group hasn’t infiltrated, from bingo to poker and from sports betting to scratch cards. If the Gambling Therapy app proves to be successful, it is suggested that there is the potential for rolling it out to other areas in which Kindred Group operates.
While a single app can’t hope to fix a problem as complex as gambling addiction, any measure to collate and share resources designed to help curb problem gambling have got to be applauded.
