- Agreement sees Unibet take over frontline shirt sponsorship of both the men’s and women’s team kit for the 2017/18 season
- To celebrate the partnership, Unibet have price boosted Villa’s title chances from 8-1 joint favorites to 10-1
1982 European soccer champions Aston Villa and online casino and sports betting operator Unibet have signed a deal for the 2017/18 Championship season which will see Unibet’s logo emblazoned across the front of Aston Villa’s shirts as well as the ladies’ team shirts for the new campaign.
The announcement of the deal has come at just the right time as the Midlands club have just today announced the signing of high profile former England and Chelsea defender John Terry in a move which has seen the Birmingham, UK side instilled as one of the pre-season favorites for promotion.
Unibet looking to capitalize on the Championship’s bulging popularity
As part of the one of the largest casino and betting companies in the world in the Kindred Group, Unibet is no stranger to the need to seek out possible global exposure opportunities with the Championship, the second tier of English football behind the Premiership, becoming an ever more valuable commodity.
Sky Sports have played their part and screened live a plethora of Championship games last season in which Aston Villa were shown multiple times.
Last season, Villa’s home match against Newcastle United drew in half a million viewers whilst the division is the fourth most attended football league in Europe, sitting only behind the Premier League, Germany’s Bundesliga and Spain’s La Liga.
This means that England’s second tier division receives more spectators on average than Italy’s Serie A which includes the likes of AC Milan, Juventus and Roma, as well as the French and Dutch divisions which includes teams such as PSG, Monaco, Ajax and PSV Eindhoven respectively.
Both parties set to win
Part of the agreement will see Unibet give supporters the chance to be amongst the very first to wear and play in the new Aston Villa kit in a tournament alongside Villa legends and celebrities at Villa’s renowned Bodymoor Heath training ground.
Sam Mead, Head of Marketing UK for Unibet went on to say: “We are delighted to be partnering with Aston Villa in their push for promotion back to the Premier League.
“Unibet and Aston Villa are two of the biggest names in our respective fields with a rich heritage; Unibet genuinely understand football fans and, working together with Aston Villa, will be ensuring we enhance the enjoyment of their fans in all aspects of the beautiful game.
“We look forward to supporting Villa fans and the Birmingham area with unique content and special betting opportunities.”
Whilst Luke Organ, Chief Commercial Officer for Aston Villa added: “The club’s size is reflected by this relationship with Unibet and we look forward to testing our data and digital abilities to drive value and provide a rounded partnership for us all to enjoy.”
Unibet have also boosted Villa’s price from 8-1 to 10-1 to win the Championship as a celebration of the partnership and are on at 5-2 to gain promotion back to the Premier League.
