Shock at $880,000 Mayweather McGregor fight bet amid new ‘worrying’ training video

  • $880,000 bet on Floyd Mayweather placed at Las Vegas casino
  • 95 percent of bets placed on McGregor ahead of August 26 fight

As the build-up to the clash between Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor continues, one bettor has placed a massive bet on the undefeated favorite.

The $800,000 bet was placed by an anonymous bettor at the South Point Casino, Las Vegas, at odds of -500.

If successful, the bet stands to net a profit of $160,000 dollars, although the figures involved were so large that the South Point computer couldn’t cope.

Payouts of greater than $1 million are not permitted by the casino’s bookmaking system, so staff had to make out two separate bets of $440,000 to fulfil the bet. The betting slip in the Twitter post is probably just for illustration purposes.

Making such a large bet for such a relatively small return may not be for everyone, but was likely influenced by the almost-unanimous conclusion of fight pundits and journalists that Mayweather will make short work of his opponent.

Tentative bagwork

The massive bet on Mayweather to beat his UFC opponent in the much-anticipated bout on August 26 bout bucks the trend.

The betting public has been backing McGregor, tempted by the odds available on the Irishman, who is a big underdog.

According to a report by ESPN, the Nevada sportsbook of UK betting company William Hill has a liability of over $1 million on a McGregor win, with 95 percent of bets coming on the UFC star.

But McGregor fans anticipating a big payout might not be too encouraged by a recent video released by MMA Fighting’s Ariel Helwani.

The video posted on social media shows McGregor doing a little bagwork for the cameras on Friday evening, and his tentative style will not have given the Mayweather camp too much cause for concern. In fact the Washington Post described it as ‘worrisome’.

He’s in a ‘world of trouble’ according to the newspaper.
