- Wild multipliers which can pay up to 25x sets slot apart
- Simple gameplay but 1000x wins on offer
Anyone who watched any amount of TV in the 1990s probably came across The X-Files, one of the biggest smashes of the decade.
And now Playtech has resurrected the franchise to release a slot based on the iconic series featuring David Duchovny as Fox Mulder and Gillian Anderson as Dana Scully – two FBI agents who take on cases that defy rational explanation.
It may seem like odd timing, but The X-Files was rebooted for TV for a tenth season in 2016, and an eleventh season is underway in the US currently.
Fortunately, the reviews have so far been pretty positive – but will Playtech’s slot be out of this world, or should it be consigned to the Twilight Zone?
How does it play
The X-Files is a standard slot in its make up – it has five reels, 20 paylines and is playable from 0.20 right up to a whopping 500.00 per spin.
There’s nothing mysterious about that.
The Mulder and Scully symbols are the top paying, and there’s the usual array of playing card symbols paying lesser amounts.
The setting is a spooky, misty wood, and the soundtrack is inspired by the X-Files music, although it isn’t that classic intro title song.
What sets this slot apart is the multipliers, and specifically the fact that the multipliers are wilds.
The multiplier symbol itself spins round to determine the multiplier amount, and players can secure up to 25x on a spin.
Not only that but getting the scatter symbol (which is a flying saucer with ‘I Want To Believe’ written underneath) can launch the Locking Rift Free Games feature.
This locks the multipliers in place where they land on the reels and so can make the elusive 25x multiplier that much easier to bag. Players can claim up to 20 free spins, but the free spins to do not trigger, so you get what you are given only.
It’s that multiplier potential that will most likely excite players.
While this slot does a good job of capturing some of the feel of the X-Files, it does not have any footage or animations from the programme itself.
The Rift Free Games are exciting, but again, it takes you to the base game board and doesn’t whisk you to a different setting, like some slots do.
So it feels like a slot concept that happens to have an X-Files theme, rather than a gameplay that is influenced by the series itself.
But in any case, the potential 1000x wins will probably deliver a similar sort of intrigue to players that would rival Mulder and Scully themselves when coming across a case of the paranormal.
Where to play
This slot hasn’t yet been released, but look out for this one at online casinos carrying Playtech games, of which there are many.
