- The battled of the jurassic-themed slot games
- Microgaming’s second Jurassic Park-themed slot takes on Jurassic Giants
Dinosaurs, mammoths, and other creatures from the ancient times have always been a great inspiration for books, movies, and other sources of entertainment, so why not online slots?
The Jurassic Park movie franchise did a great job of visualizing this old, long-extinct world, so Microgaming was quick to snatch a deal giving them rights to recreate that same experience on the slot reels.
Sometime later, Pragmatic Play figured out they’d take on the challenge as well, with their Jurassic Giants.
Graphics & audio 5/5
Like with most of their film-based slots, Microgaming made sure to get some exclusive original footage to spice up the gameplay.
Other than this, familiar characters and creatures from the movie filling the reels give Jurassic World that original and distinct feel we’ve already become accustomed to. The movie scenery in the background rounds everything up nicely.
In-game features 5/5
Jurassic World is a 243-ways slot, giving it a great foundation to incorporate some fun features.
Game designers didn’t miss on this opportunity, filling the game with stacked wilds, scatters turning wild, and Indominus Rex who can randomly boost your wins up to 1,000x – all this in the base game.
Furthermore, there are three different types of free spins rounds, with increasing multipliers, cryo wilds, and wild scatters held until you catch a re-trigger. This slot is rich in features that will keep players trying for another spin.
Jurassic World features a fairly high RTP for a 243-ways slot, with returns of 96.7%.
This means that the game isn’t particularly volatile, giving players a lot of spins and a lot of opportunities to try and get lucky in the bonus or catch the coveted Indominus Feature.
Winning potential 5/5
Nearly all Microgaming slots of this type, such as Immortal Romance or Thunderstruck II, come with a big winning potential.
With Jurassic World, the maximum you can expect to win is 6,000 times your stake in a single spin, which is just massive.
Overall value 5/5
Whether you like dinosaurs or simply enjoy a good slot with big winning chances, Jurassic World delivers on every front.
The game features supreme graphics, excellent bonus features, and a very decent RTP to provide players with a lot of entertainment.
At the same time, every now and then, the game will reward you with some massive wins if you stick to your guns.
Graphics & audio 4/5
Jurassic Giants came after Jurassic Park and were Pragmatic Play’s response to Microgaming’s hugely successful title.
The game features cartoon-like graphics, with colorful symbols and reels set on the backdrop of the untouched forest. Strong, tense music adds to the feeling, so overall, Jurassic Giants bring a decent audio-visual atmosphere.
Of course, Microgaming has a slight advantage here, because they were allowed to use original elements from the legendary movie, and you just can’t beat that.
In-game features 4/5
This Pragmatic Play title comes with 4,096 ways to win on a 6×4 grid. Combinations pay left to right and right to left and all symbols are stacked, so there is always something going on in the base game.
As for the special features, there is just the free spins round, triggered by 10 or more Diamond scatters landing on the reels.
Players can win anywhere from 15 to 250 free spins (for landing 20 scatters). All wins in the bonus round are multiplied by a random multiplier of 2x, 3x, or 4x. This is entertaining, of course, but it’s nothing we haven’t seen before with many similar titles.
The RTP of Jurassic Giants is 96.01%, which is somewhat expected for a game with so many ways to pay. As usually, this is neither here nor there.
Anything around 96% is decent, although somewhat higher RTP might have given the game the boost it needed to compete with Jurassic Park.
Winning potential 5/5
With so many pay way, stacked symbols, and multipliers, it goes without saying that you could land a huge win on Jurassic Giants.
The six-combo of the highest paying symbol pays just 8x your total stake, but multiply that with a few thousand ways and throw in an extra multiplier, and that’s something to write home about.
Jurassic Giants is definitely an entertaining slot to play, but it feels a bit like something we’ve seen so many times, just with different symbols on the reels. Of course, if you like dinosaurs and are up for chasing some huge wins, this game will not disappoint. Keep in mind, however, that those big combos don’t come nearly as often as you’d like them to.
Our verdict & where to play
All in all, Jurassic World takes the victory in this head-to-head. Although both games are fun to play, Microgaming’s one is more original and more elaborate, with a bigger variety of features.
