- Company advertises for new employees ahead of 2017 launch
- Poker, casino games, slots and sports betting could all be available for German players
Sky Betting and Gaming have advertised to fill new positions in a Munich office meaning players in Germany will soon have access to their services.
Sky Betting and Gaming operates several sites such as Sky Bet, Sky Poker, Sky Casino and Sky Vegas, which have been hugely popular in the UK.
CEO Richard Flint confirmed that the launch would take place later this year, stating: “We are really excited about the opportunity available within the German market. These new hires will allow us to press ahead with our plans to launch there later this year. The fact that we are in a position to do so, so soon after looking into the market, is a testament to our international team and the positive relationship they have developed with Sky Deutschland.”
As with many European countries, Germany has been historically cautious about third-party betting companies, although things are beginning to change rapidly. With the largest population in the European Union, the country represents an obvious market for expansion for Sky.
It’s not yet clear whether all of Sky Betting and Gaming’s products will be available in the country, or if there will be a simultaneous or staggered launch. However, players in Germany will be able to access some combination of poker, table games, slots, and sports betting when the move is finally made.
The team will be headed up by managing director Jochen Weiner, who previously worked for bwin. “Since joining I’ve been impressed with the way colleagues have pulled together to get us ready to launch a real money product so quickly”, said Weiner. “There is clearly a healthy market in Germany and we look forward to entering it soon.”
