Scratchcard player scoops $275,000 prize in Ontario’s innovative BIG SPIN game

  • Player spins wheel at OLG prize center to net huge prize
  • Unique scratchcard game proving a big hit in Ontario

A Brampton resident has won an incredible $275,000 prize (around $22,000 USD) on scratchcard game THE BIG SPIN, operator OLG has confirmed, becoming the game’s second big winner since it launched earlier this month.

The new scratchcard game gives players the chance to win instant spot prizes, but the biggest winners get the chance to spin the lucky wheel for real – and take home anywhere between $100,000 and $500,00!

Wheel spins for prizes in unique scratchcard concept

Participants in THE BIG SPIN buy a ticket for $5 from any retailer who is taking part, and they scratch off the ticket to discover if they have won.

The ticket might reveal a spot prize of anywhere between $5 and $100,000 in prizes, as with a regular instant win game. However, the ticket could also show a ‘SPIN’ prize instead.

The player with a ‘SPIN’ ticket must give that ticket to the retailer, who activates a digital display featuring a spinning wheel. The wheel could land on a cash amount of between $10 and $10,000, representing an instant win: but it could also show that the player has won a BIG SPIN.

This is a guaranteed prize of between $100,000 and $500,000, earned by spinning the real BIG SPIN wheel at OLG’s city prize center.

Big winner off to Disneyland after lucky spin

The recent winner of THE BIG SPIN was Damitra Maharaj, a former high school footballer who prefers to be known as Chubbs, who lives in Brampton and bought his $5 ticket from the local gas station. “I have been playing since day one,” Maharaj told OLG staff when collecting his prize.

The retailer had to convince the winner that his ticket wasn’t faulty, after the shop’s animated wheel brought up the BIG SPIN award. “It just didn’t register,” ‘Chubbs’ joked with OLG employees. “I had no idea what was going on.”

Now that the news has sunk in, and the $275,000 is winging its way to the winner’s bank account, Maharaj has turned his attentions to spending his windfall.

The dad of two intends to treat his family to a much-deserved vacation at Disneyland, and wants to pay off his property before investing in a college fund for his young boys. “I haven’t been on a vacation since our honeymoon 13 years ago,” the excited winner shared after his BIG SPIN.
