The bold criminal fled the scene after dumping clothes and the imitation weapon in a nearby bin, according to a report in the Independent. Police have opened an investigation into the incident, and are seeking help from the public in identifying the lone suspect.

Toy gun used in robbery

According to police reports, the thief entered the casino at around 10am last Tuesday morning, dressed in a white boiler suit and brandishing a firearm. It appears that a confrontation took place between the man and the casino staff, before he escaped with the cash.

Police at the scene discovered the boiler suit and the gun, which turned out to be a harmless replica, in a bin close to the casino.

Police search for casino robber

The robber is said to be a white male of above average height, though there is not much further information available at this stage. How he gained access to the exclusive casino club, which charges guests £1,000 ($1,266) per year for membership, is still unclear – but the use of overalls might suggest that the thief posed as a worker or contractor. The casino closed for forensic investigation on Tuesday, but has since reopened. It is trading normally.
