- Dual Oaks winner is odds-on to claim Europe’s most prestigious racing prize on Sunday
- This year’s race to be held at Chantilly for the final time
The dual Oaks winner also landed the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes earlier this year and after being handed a good inside draw for Sunday’s big race, bookmakers have made her the odds-on favourite at around the 10-11 mark although you can get evens at Paddy Power and Betfred at the time of writing.
Trainer Gosden will be bidding for his second winner in Europe’s most prestigious horse race, after Golden Horn in 2015, and he once again teams up with Frankie Dettori who will be bidding for his fifth winner in this race.
The favorite will be taking on seventeen other rivals at Chantilly – the Arc’s temporary home before it returns to Paris next year – and it looks like being a typically competitive renewal of a race that brings the curtain down on the European turf racing calendar in style as the cream of the world’s turf-racing thoroughbreds do battle.
Enable’s main challenger appears to be Winter, who will be bidding to become the first horse since 1990 to win the Arc when attempting the mile-and-a-half distance for the first time. She is priced up at around 8-1 by UK Bookmakers, but is just one of five runners for trainer Aidan O’Brien who also saddles Order Of St George (10-1) along with Capri (16-1) who won the Irish Derby and St Leger and certainly has sufficient stamina for the contest.
Ulysses – trained by Sir Michael Stoute – is another serious contender, having won both the Eclipse Stakes and International Stakes this year, and can generally be backed at 8-1 while the pick of the French challengers appears to be French Derby winner Brametot, who has a favourable draw close to Enable and is an interesting 14-1 outsider.
What is the the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe?
Winners of the event tend to go down in history. It has been in existence since 1920 and among the leading jockeys with the most wins is Frankie Dettori, who is going for his fifth.
The event takes place on Sunday, October 1, at 15.05BST at the Chantilly racecourse, near Paris, which is standing in for Longchamp.
Dettori inspires popular slot game
Dettori’s escapades on the course have earned him the honor of featuring in a casino slot game.
In fact, unlike some attempts to bring a famous faces into the world of slots, the game entitled Frankie Dettori’s Magic Seven, named after his historic achievement of winning every race in a single day at Ascot in 1996.
