The incident occurred near the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino on the Vegas Strip

The incident, which occurred in the early hours of Monday morning, followed an argument in front of the famous Planet Hollywood casino on the Strip.

A shot was fired

After a group of tourists got into a dispute around 4:30am, a man walked up behind them and fired a shot. No one was injured but the incident still caused Las Vegas Boulevard to be temporarily shut down while police investigated.

The shooter fled the scene but was located near the fountains by the Bellagio and taken into custody. Police also retrieved the handgun believed to have been used in the shooting.

The incident that led to the shooting involved a group of two men and two woman, all of whom were from California. As they were passing Planet Hollywood Resort, two other men approached them and an argument broke out.

No one was hurt

As for why the suspect, Torres-Cruz, decided to get involved and draw his weapon, it’s been reported by the Las Vegas Review Journal that he once dated one of the women. After breaking up for a while, the couple got back together at the start of June, but to complicate matters, the woman has started dating someone else around this time – one of the men who was involved in the heated argument that ensued.

According to the police report, Torres-Cruz shouted “I’m going to get my strap!” and ran off. The 21-year-old clearly wasn’t bluffing, for the group moved on but moments later the suspect ran up from behind and fired a shot.

Allegedly, the woman hadn’t directly told Torres-Cruz she was in the area but she had declared it on social media. It is supposed that he saw the post, jealousy got the better of him and he confronted the couple. Las Vegas shootings are commonplace, but it’s unusual for them to take place on the Strip. In this case, the parties involved can count themselves lucky that no one was hurt.
