- The original play app failed to attract a sufficient audience and was replaced in 2015 by Jackpot Poker
- New app will see a phased roll-out with the US and Australia the first countries to get the app
Online Poker giants PokerStars have announced a re-launch of their social app ‘Poker Play’.
The original app failed to attract a large enough audience to warrant its continuation in 2013 but bosses believe that the re-launched online casino app will be a big hit.
What is new?
PokerStars new app will feature a range of free-play poker games, which will include the ever-popular Texas Hold’em, Omaha, as well as Spin & Go tournaments.
There will also be a whole host of slots very much like the ones to currently found inside PokerStars’ money platform.
PokerStars have also announced that there will be a set of unique features but as of yet do not specify what they will be but the new app will enable players to interact with one another by offering players to compete against poker pros whilst collecting trophies and work their way up weekly leaderboards.
The confirmed addition of fast-paced daily tournaments means that playing on the go is a real possibility with accessibility key to the apps success.
Learning from previous mistakes
Following the failure of PokerStars first ‘Play’ attempt in 2013, PokerStars director of social gaming Lloyd Melnick has made it clear that lessons have been learnt especially following the success of app Jackpot Poker by saying:
“PokerStars Play is the next phase in our progress toward being a leader in social casino, the new PokerStars Play app incorporates the lessons learned from building Jackpot Poker, which is probably the best social poker game on the market”
“We are very excited to launch PokerStars Play as it represents a great opportunity for players of social poker products to now play with and against the best from the poker leaders.”
PokerStars are launching their app at just the right time as it was reported by the Global Industry Analysis that the social gaming sector is set be worth a whopping $17.4 billion by 2019.
PokerStars as a brand now have the pulling power and experience to make their app a real winner second time around and the social app allows the continued operation in Australia for the brand in some capacity due to new legislation in the country which banned operators such as PokerStars from offering real money betting.
I for one cannot wait for the UK launch of the app, we await the announcement.
