The $700 million Parq Vancouver casino resort, operated by Nevada-based company Paragon Gaming, was originally scheduled to open in 2016, but will finally open its doors with a celebratory event at 11pm on Friday, September 29th.

On the same date, the Edgewater Casino, which sits across the street, will officially close, marking the end of twelve years of operations, as its gaming license is transferred to the Parq by Paragon.

That process was the cause of much controversy and led to the lengthy delay in the project as politicians attempted to address local concerns.

Parq Vancouver will features a 72k-square-foot gaming floor, which is twice as large as that at the Edgewater, and concerns over the impact this increase in casino floor would have on local residents led to Vancouver politicians restricting the number of slots and gaming tables at the facility.

Originally planned to feature 1,500 slots and 150 tables, the Parq will now have only 600 slots and 75 tables, in line with the facilities at the Edgewater.

Dedicated poker room

The underutilization of the Parq’s floor space may leave the venue looking a little empty, an effect that will be increased by the operator’s decision to reserve a number of tables for high rollers who visit the eleven private gaming salons available on the property.

The Parq also offers high-limit slots areas and a dedicated poker room.

Away from the gaming floor, the venue includes two hotels offering a combined total of 517 rooms, along with eight restaurants and lounges, a ballroom that will be the largest in Vancouver, around 62,000 square feet of event space, spa facilities, and an open-air space on the sixth floor known as ‘The Park’ that will incorporate 200 pine trees.
