- Thunderkick’s new Flame Busters slot features the elements of mid-1980s arcade games
- Classic sound and visuals are combined with interesting in-game features
The tendency with slots as of late has been to create the games that offer powerful graphics and modern sound elements, which take full advantage of modern technologies. However, with its latest release Flame Busters, Thunderkick has decided to take a different direction, producing a game that feels and plays like a 1980s arcade game.
Flame Busters is an intriguing game with an innovative approach, despite its retro aspect. We may well be past the arcade period in 2017, but most casino players still remember good, old arcade days, and this is probably the nostalgic feeling Thunderkick game developers were aiming at.
The game has initially been released to Casumo , but more online casinos which offer Thunderkick games should follow.
Sound and visuals
Flame Busters puts the player inside a burning building surrounded by fireman working hard to put out the flames.
The graphics are intentionally pixelated, giving a true arcade feel that all fans of old Nintendo or Sega games know all too well. The same goes for background music and sounds, which are very simple and repetitive, but at the same time perfectly fit with the slot’s entire setup.
The symbols featured in Flame Busters include Super Mario-style coins for lower paying symbols, and a pirate, a robot, a wizard, and a fireman as higher paying symbols. There is also the wild (represented by a pixelated letter W), and the Fire Alarm Bell, which serves as a scatter. Additionally, there is a mystery Fire symbol which can turn into any other symbol except for the scatter and the wild.
The fireman is the highest paying symbol, paying up to 10x the bet for five of a kind.
Flame Busters can be played on various desktop and mobile devices, regardless if they are of the Windows, Android, or iOS variety. Bets range from just 10p per spin all the way up to £100. The theoretical RTP (Return to Player) is 96.1%, which is fairly standard when compared to most slot machines out there.
While the visuals in this game purposefully aren’t anything to write home about, Flame Busters certainly impresses with a number of different bonus features. There is always something going on as you play, so there is never a dull moment.
The Fire Drill feature is activated randomly during the base game. It will first transform coin symbols into Fire symbols, and after the firemen put out the flames, these symbols will be transformed into a different, higher paying one. The feature can transform up to five symbols, and all the Fire symbols will turn into the same symbol in the end, creating some nice winning opportunities.
The Free Spins feature will kick off when three or more Fire Alarm Bells land anywhere on the reels. You can initially win 10-20 free spins, depending on the number of scatters. Once the feature starts, every scatter that lands will count, as three Alarm Bells falling will unlock the next floor, adding two more spins. As you climb the floors, coins will turn into fire symbols, meaning that once you reach the last floor, there will no longer be low paying symbols in the game.
Creative and different game
Flame Busters is certainly different than most games you’ll find out there. It remains to be seen how the players will accept it, but the concept, the gameplay, and winning possibilities all give it a good shot to become popular, especially with the players looking for a change of pace.
If you’re feeling nostalgic about the old arcades, this Thunderkick slot will definitely provide a welcome reincarnation of that classic look and feel.
You can’t fault the innovation with this. They have also seemingly delivered the look of that late 1980s arcade heyday.
