New Reel Heist slot will have you in a whirlwind, but don’t get robbed

  • The new Red Tiger slot might take the title of the most confusing slot of the year
  • Cash prizes up to 2,000x of the stake, but testing reveals some shortcomings

It isn’t often that we get to play a slot that manages to completely confuse us, but congratulations to Red Tiger, because that’s exactly what they’ve done with their latest Reel Heist game.

The Reel Heist base game - not graphics that are going to blow anyone away, and a confused gameplay too boot.
The Reel Heist base game – not graphics that are going to blow anyone away, and a confused gameplay too boot.

The basic idea is to chase the robbers across the reels and, when you catch them, claim cash prizes up to 2,000x your stake.

But, as it turns out, this is easier said than done.

It’s a head-scratcher

One of the reasons people love slots so much is the fact games are usually very easy to understand. Red Tiger went out of their way to stray from that rule and actually created a game where it will take you a while to figure out what in the world is going on.

From a purely aesthetical perspective, the game isn’t particularly impressive, but it isn’t that bad, either. With cartoonish graphics and a music fitting for some short animated film about cops and robbers, Reel Heist has all the makings of a fun game, if unspectacular.

Now for the fun part?

Reel Heist features a 5×4 grid and 40 paylines, with symbols like police hats, handcuffs, sunglasses, etc.

The game has one special feature and it involves a random robber appearing on the side of the reels with a certain multiplier of up to 2,000x the stake. If a cop appears on the same spin and manages to catch the robber, you’ll get paid the cash prize.

However, the confusion ensues with the variation of this feature. At a certain point, the wild cop symbol will appear on the reels. According to the paytable, this cop symbol substitutes for all other symbols, but that’s not true, or at least it hasn’t been explained properly.

Namely, once the symbol settles on the reels, the slot will go in a different mode, with police sirens going off, and it will remain there for the duration of your session.

The cop will blow his whistle and get some of the robbers onto to the reels. Then, they, too, will stay there, and the cop will occasionally hit them with his baton, winning the multiplier.

All the while, standard paying symbols are hidden behind the cops and robbers, so you get paid but it isn’t really clear what for.

A player can find some redeeming factors for most slots out there, but Red Tiger’s Reel Heist just seems like a game that’s missing something.

It doesn’t seem like the slot is behaving as envisioned.

As ever, the player is the best judge, so if you’d like to try it out for yourself and see what it’s all about, it is already available at Guts Casino and will probably soon be coming to places like Betsafe Casino.
