- Scientific Games will bring the world-famous secret agent to life this year
- Bond-themed slot will include characters past and present and original music
The world’s most famous secret agent – a contradiction in terms if ever there was one – is poised to get the video slot treatment. Bond is back and this time he’s set to surface at a video slot terminal near you.
Scientific Games Corporation is the developer that has been tasked with bringing the poker-playing, lady-loving, bullet-dodging lothario’s adventures to life in video slot format.
The companies behind the enduring James Bond franchise were clearly impressed with Scientific Games’ oeuvre and track record for delivering character-driven games across multiple channels.
The deal, agreed with EON Productions Limited, Danjaq, LLC and MGM Interactive Inc, gives Scientific Games the rights to resurrect the ghosts of Bonds past and present, complete with the trademark opening sequence, soundtrack and catchphrases that are all part of the agent’s repertoire.
“The Bond franchise is clearly a long sought-after and incredibly exciting brand for our industry. James Bond is synonymous with action, excitement, and next-generation technology. We look forward to harnessing the power of the Bond brand to drive innovation across the company in the years ahead.”
Scientific Games’ CEO Kevin Sheehan
The first in what is expected to be a series of branded Bond games should debut at Las Vegas’ Global Gaming Expo in October 2017. It is likely that clips from classic Bond movies will be meshed with features and themed bonuses in the games, which will be rolled out to land-based gaming premises as well as being adapted for lottery terminals and social slots.
Bet on Bond?
In other Bond-related news, Tom Hardy and Michael Fassbender are currently leading the betting for the next 007. British bookies have taken a flurry of bets in recent weeks, with odds of 11/4 being quoted on Hardy and Fassbender, followed by outsiders James Norton, Aidan Turner and Idris Elba.
Times change and gender roles evolve, but the lure of James Bond remains eternal. The world is a markedly different place from that which Sean Connery stepped into in 1962 as Dr No, and yet demand for the never-ending franchise appears to be greater than ever.
The arrival of Scientific Games’ licensed James Bond slots should only serve to ramp up interest further ahead of the next Bond movie, the first to be filmed without outgoing 007 Daniel Craig.
