- Fight originally set to take place at MGM Grand Garden Arena
- Deal reached to move fight to the larger T-Mobile Arena
The venue for the hotly anticipated upcoming boxing match on August 26 between Floyd Mayweather and UFC star Conor McGregor has been confirmed.
It was recently announced that the match is now going to take place at the T-Mobile Arena, the largest entertainment venue in Las Vegas with a boxing spectator capacity of 20,000.
Previously scheduled to take place at the arena was the final match of The Big3 basketball league’s current season – this will now take place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, which can hold 3,000 fewer spectators than the T-Mobile Arena.
The Mayweather-McGregor fight
The fight between Irish mixed martial artist Conor McGregor and the once-retired undefeated boxing champion Floyd Mayweather has been long in the making.
Mayweather retired in 2014 with an astonishing professional record of 49-0 and is hoping to defend his record against McGregor, who has never fought in a professional boxing match. As of the time of writing, the two are on a four-day press tour to promote the fight.
Rather unsurprisingly, Mayweather is the favorite to win. Bet365 has him at 1-6, whereas William Hill, Betfred and BetVictor all offer odds of 1-7 and Ladbrokes, Sky Bet and Coral currently have odds of 1-8.
As for McGregor, most bookmakers are offering odds of 4-1, 5-1 or 9-2, which is half way in between.
Created by rapper Ice Cube and entertainment industry executive Jeff Kwatinetz, the Big3 is a 3-on-3 basketball league made up for former NBA players.
It’s been reported that The Big3 received a ‘generous offer [they] could not refuse’ from MGM Resorts, Mayweather Promotions and the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) to move elsewhere so the Mayweather-McGregor fight could take place at the T-Mobile Arena.
Both events are scheduled to take place on August 26, with the basketball match starting at 4:30pm local time and the boxing match taking place in the evening.
The pay-per-view cost could be as much as $100.
