  • The Expo is carrying on regardless of the horrifying shootings in the city this week

Following on from the devastating shooting in Las Vegas this week, the Global Gaming Expo has opened it doors as the casino industry’s biggest event gets underway for another year.

The industry’s largest convention is expected to see over 26000 people through its doors over the four-day event which boasts next year’s top attractions reeling in operators from all over the globe.

Expo goes on

An important message on the G2E website homepage stated that the event would honor the victims of this tragic event.

‘The gaming industry is a tight-knit community and Las Vegas is the beating heart of our operations. The AGA and Reed Exhibitions will offer our full assistance as the city recovers, and will honor the victims of this tragic event.’

The expo was opened with President and CEO of the American Gaming Association, Geoff Freeman with an onstage chat with Boston police commissioner Ed Davis (who was in charge when the Boston Marathon bombing occurred).

This was said to “make sure this event takes on the right tone and tenor” from the beginning and replaces Mr Freemans usual 15-minute state-of-the-industry address.

Industry heavyweights gather for innovation

The annual event taking place at the Sands Expo is notorious for attracting all the star names in the industry as well as its fair share of celebrities.

Sex and the City star Kristin Davis was snapped winning 525 credits on the Sex and the City progressive slot game as well as industry heavyweights Konami’s vast stage presence.

The event also hosts a plethora of special events for attendants and exhibitors to get involved in, such as the Global gaming awards and the emerging leaders networking reception which is all about rewarding emerging management prospects well on their way to the top of the industry ladder.

New systems and games are being shown at the expo with the new Game of Thrones and Westworld slot machines making their eagerly anticipated debut.

However, innovation seems to be playing a role with a brand new tobacco smoke and odor remediation device drawing a crowd from a number of the casino sectors big players in a bid to make their land-based offerings somewhat sweeter smelling.

The stats don’t lie

G2E has become a critical part of the gambling industries calendar for companies to show case and sell their wares, as highlighted by its 2016 report.

The report showed that 88% of all attendees do so with new products the main reason they attend whilst 53% claimed they found an exhibitor they planned on working with in the next twelve months.

However, perhaps most important for the exhibitors, is that 90% of attendee’s are in some-way involved in the buying process making the potential sales pool astronomical.

With 444 industry companies exhibiting and 120 first time exhibitors, G2E is set once again to be a massive hit and one of the industries key gambling events with sales the key driving force.

The expo has done well to maintain its exposure in the light of the attack on the open air concert in the city just 36 hours prior to G2E opening its doors, however, once again, a defiant attitude from all involved has proved it will take more than Monday’s attack to stop Las Vegas.
