Next month, a family-style restaurant that previously operated under the name of Uncle Angelo’s Pizza Joint will be reopened as a single-serving gourmet pizza outlet called Contento Pizzeria.

The casino owner, Joseph Stamis, also intends to spend around $740,000 on landscaping, exterior lighting and renovations to the facility’s parking lot, and the city’s Redevelopment Agency has agreed to fund the parking lot changes to the tune of $46,000.

The upgrades follow the addition of a range of new slots and a state of the art player tracking system in 2015 and the laying of new carpeting on the casino floor last year, as Stamis attempts to ensure that the North Las Vegas mainstay facility remains competitive.

Speaking about the upgrades to the casino, Stamis said that the improving economic outlook made it a good time to invest in improvements.

“We’re seeing the economy starting to strengthen and the local gaming market is picking up, so we want to attract more customers from outside North Las Vegas while also catering to our base. We’re bullish on the economy, and we’re making improvements to maintain a competitive advantage.”

The money to help with the development of the parking lot comes from the Las Vegas Commercial Façade Upgrade Program, which offers grants to owners planning improvements within designated areas, including downtown North Las Vegas.

The area’s city planners have been making concerted efforts in to revitalise the area in recent months, agreeing to spend $1.2 million on converting the Canyon Electric Building on White Street into a two-story library, and approving a 14-screen movie theatre across the street from City Hall.
