While the image has not been verified, and is too graphic to show here, photos of the inside of the hotel room used by the mass murderer have emerged showing the extent of the weaponry at his disposal.

Stephen Paddock was a Vegas regular and was able to get a huge arsenal of weaponry into his hotel room.

The images were obtained by Boston 25 News and appear to show two of the total of 23 weapons that were discovered in the hotel suite on the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Hotel, from where the 64-year-old killed at least 59 people and injured over 500 as they attended an open-air music festival nearby on Sunday night.

The photos, which have not yet been verified, show military-grade assault weapons, a tripod and spent cartridges scattered across the hotel room carpet.

As the images circulated among media outlets and across social media, government agencies and law enforcement officials are working to find a motive for the deadly attack, which has been described as the worst mass shooting in modern US history.

Other images from the scene circulating appear to show a note on the table – but again this image has not been officially verified.

Video footage

Video footage taken from the night of the shooting shows hundreds of people screaming, cowering and running for cover accompanied by the sound of extended bursts of gunfire from above. The horror ended when police swarmed the Mandalay hotel. Paddock, who shot a hotel security officer through the door of his room, then turned the gun on himself.

Besides the 23 guns and two tripods discovered in Paddock’s hotel room, police were also able to recover another 19 firearms, along with a collection of explosives and thousands of rounds of ammunition from Paddock’s home in Mesquite, Nevada. Police also uncovered a stock of ammonium nitrate – a fertiliser that can be used to make explosives – in his car.
