- Casino teaming up with On Track Karting to build European-style indoor karting center
- Attraction is set to open in early 2018
Foxwoods Resort Casino, one of the largest in the US, has announced that it will be opening a high-performance, European-style indoor karting track next year as it seeks to expand its entertainment options.
The track, which will include a number of hairpin turns and dramatic elevation changes, is the latest addition to the Connecticut-based Foxwoods site, following the launch of the Foxwoods Thrill Tower and the announcement of the upcoming HighFlyer Zipline, as the company attempts to broaden the appeal of its resort through building a portfolio of attractions – a trend that is apparent throughout the casino industry, as some operators seek to redefine their casino and gaming venues as entertainment resorts.
Foxwoods are working with one of the karting industry’s leading players, On Track Karting, in order to develop a track that they describe as one of the longest and fastest indoor kart circuits ever built.
According to Foxwoods, the track will offer a genuine motorsport feel and will facilitate the operation of gas-powered, nine-horsepower karts that will offer drivers power, control and ‘the ultimate high-speed rush’.
Speaking about the new development, the President and CEO of Foxwoods Resort Casino, Felix Rappaport, said that the track was an important stage in the resort’s development:
“Our goal is to continue to provide more fun and exciting reasons for guests to visit Foxwoods. As a leader in the entertainment industry, this is the next logical step as we continue to evolve into the premier resort destination in North America.”
The announcement of the new kart racing venue was made by Foxwoods officials, along with the famous racing fan and star of Fast N’ Loud Richard Rawlings, at the New Hampshire Motor Speedway, ahead of the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series’ ISM Connect 300.
Construction on the karting center is due to begin later this month and according to Foxwoods the facility will be ready to open to the public early next year.
Hardly a casino industry story goes by without mentioning the millennial generation and how to get them more interested in land-based casinos.
MGM’s latest ad campaign hardly touches on casino gaming at all, instead focusing on its role as an entertainer.
