- Del Lago Resort & Casino takes nearly $40 million in first week
- Houses a casino, more than 2,000 slots, poker and table games
- Slot machine revenue amounts to almost $33 million
It hasn’t taken New York State’s latest and greatest casino long to start paying back its investors. The gleaming Del Lago Resort & Casino casino, situated in Seneca County, raked in $36.6 million in its first week of operation.
That figure represents a solid ka-ching that has pleased General Manager Jeff Babinski, who reported that $800,000 in jackpot wins was paid out in that period including one totalling a cool $50,000. Slots that have seen extensive action in the opening week include Wild Panda Gold, China Shores Jackpot, Wealth of Dynasty and Golden Wolves.
Between January 31st and February 5th of this year the casino’s slot machine revenue amounted to almost $33 million, with another $3.7 million coming from its table games. The Finger Lake’s newest gaming resort combines a sprawling casino with a series of restaurants, hotel and luxury spa. In particular, the Farmers Market Buffet has received largely positive reviews; other dining options include Portico by Fabio Viviani, Savor NY and The Social.
At the casino, players can spin the reels of more than 2,000 slots as well as trying their luck at the poker table, of which there are a dozen, and another 70+ table games.
The slot machines’ average daily payout within the reported period works out at $252. Of the millions that Del Lago has scooped from slots in its first week, a good chunk of that – 37% to be precise – will be taken up by tax.
The table games on the other hand have a tax rate of just 10%. While America’s stance on gambling is still contradictory – online gambling is illegal at federal level but individual states have sought ways to circumvent it – the success of Del Lago will likely bolster support for state-sanctioned casinos.
This is thanks in part to the fact that a portion of the tax generated by Del Lago will be shared with neighbouring counties. Once other counties start to appreciate the windfall that licensed casino gambling can herald, pressure is likely to mount for other premises to be established.
Given that Del Lago had a soft launch on January 31st, it’s likely that it will break its own opening week record in the near future. As it stands, Del Lago Resort & Casino can draw great confidence from its strong opening week figures.
