- Dark Hearts featurs 243 pay ways and a familiar gothic theme and atmosphere
- Although the game is similar to Microgaming’s Immortal Romance, it features enhanced graphics and sounds and a range of bonus features
Coming in the midst of the hype around the Twilight series of films starring Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart, the timing was perfect.
Accordingly, Rival Gaming, decided to try their luck in this particular niche, releasing their Dark Hearts slot, another game that features 243 ways to win and a strangely romantic theme of the unfortunate love life of the creatures of the night.
Although it isn’t hard to guess where Rival developers got their inspiration from, they managed to make the Dark Hearts slot surprisingly engaging and mesmerizing, particularly through the slow but creepy sound theme.
The soundtrack successfully manages to convey the main idea of the game although it hasn’t been explicitly explained anywhere.
Rival is no amateur when it comes to graphics, either. Reels are set in a frame of red roses and all the symbols have been nicely designed to correspond with the theme.
This goes even for the low paying, playing card symbols, which were decorated with gothic elements to fit better with the rest of the game.
Dark Hearts features three main characters Viktor, Willow, and Marcus, all three of them appearing on the reels.
However, they are medium paying symbols, which is somewhat unorthodox. The highest paying symbol is, in fact, the Dark Hearts logo, followed by the silver chalice and the cross. The Love Bites symbol is wild and substitutes for all symbols except for scatter keys.
Choose your passion
The bonus feature is triggered by three or more old key symbols landing on the reels. Players are given three options to choose from:
- Viktor: 30 free spins with no multiplier
- Willow: 15 free spins with a 2x multiplier
- Marcus: 10 free spins with a 3x multiplier
During free spins, only the player’s selected character will appear on the reels, while the other two will be removed, which also increases the chance of landing main character combinations.
Dark Hearts features the RTP of 95.2%, which is a bit on the lower end, although not so much that it would be a deal breaker by any means.
Where to play
While the Dark Hearts slot may seem like an Immortal Romance clone at the first glance, the game certainly brings some original elements and simply looks and plays great.
If you’re into the whole vampire love thing, then clearly this will be one to try.
Unfortunately, there aren’t that many casinos featuring Rival slots currently, but you should be able to try the game at Videoslots Casino.
