Casumo Casino: First Time Visit

  • We check out one of the quirkiest online casino sites for the first time
  • Is it worth taking advantage of their free spins sign-up offer?

My first thoughts on arriving at Casumo were ‘is this definitely a casino?’. The site has a very modern design, using responsive web pages, bright colours and a very friendly outlook. The artwork is cartoonish but soft, not too brash.

I like that the online casino has a very open and welcoming style and looks like something new, rather than trying to pretend it’s just like a land-based casino.

The site immediately invited me to join, so I went ahead and followed the process. The prospect of a potential 200 free spins certainly helps in that regard!

Getting Around

I do have a soft spot for these modern casino sites that break away from the traditional template. I like that Casumo’s navigation area is on a side bar, which leaves a lot of room for graphics and art on the main page space. The site is designed to be scrolled smoothly, passing through several original backgrounds, until you find the usual site footer area.

The colours are bright but not too glaring, while the text is easy to read and welcoming. The site runs smoothly despite animations and has touches like a ticker panel showing latest casino game wins and a selector for six languages. The design isn’t perfect, however- Casumo is a little too modern in places. The site dispenses with the usual promotions area, for example. I was lost for a while, trying to work out what was on offer.

The games present in massive tiles, so you certainly won’t miss them, organised into latest titles, popular titles and so on, with optional filtering controls and search. Wherever you go on site, the side bar remains in place, with links to your account. I also really like your ‘my account’ area on Casumo, which has great original artwork representing where you are on your casino journey.

I was a little disappointed by the promotional side of Casumo, after finally figuring out what they had on offer. However, the welcome bonus is still pretty strong. I was offered up to 200 free spins and £1200 bonus cash, but this is split over five deposits so it doesn’t come cheap. Your first deposit is eligible for a 200% match first deposit bonus up to £50 and comes with 20 free spins a day for nine days. This is in addition to 20 spins just for signing up. There are 50% bonuses on second and third deposits, then 25% bonuses on fourth and fifth deposits. I’d prefer a simpler offer, but on the plus side, the wagering requirements are very low at 25x.

I found no standard, day-to-day promotions here. Instead, the site has reel races, where players compete to get the most spins and certain achievements. These occur throughout the day, on various slots. This is good fun and can win you prizes, but I like to see the odd prize draw or special event. There’s also a kind of regular reward system, but this is more like a loyalty perk than a promotion.

Games and Software

I like that slots load nice and fast at Casumo, appearing nice and large, with the sidebar in place for links. You can also see any current reel races there. The setup feels smooth and doesn’t get in the way.

There’s a very strong variety at Casumo, with NetEnt up front with their very gorgeous-looking slots. I also spotted Play ‘N Go, including the brand-new Viking Runecraft. The site has Microgaming with Game of Thrones, which I love as a fan of the show, plus you have Williams, Quickspin and more. There are over 200 slots and several jackpots.

For casino fans, Casumo uses several NetEnt games like blackjack, baccarat, roulette, punto banco and more. I also spotted SG Interactive’s Key Bet Roulette, for a little change of pace. I was pleased to see live dealer games by Evolution, so overall, the table games get a good amount of attention here.
I couldn’t find much mobile information here, but the site does actually have a very good mobile page and a full iOS app for Apple devices.

The mobile site shows that Casumo was made with mobile in mind, using the same layout, just resized to the smaller space. It’s smooth to navigate and easy to use, which is not always the case with mobile casinos.

It took me a minute to realise that you click on your balance area to deposit here. From there, you simply have a set of large panels with very clear directions, so it’s nice and easy to use.

I did notice that some payment methods have fees here, but at least it’s shown clearly. The withdrawal time is pretty fast at Casumo, approving within 23 hours. I think this will appeal to a lot of players.

Casumo accepts the standard MasterCard and Visa debit and credit cards, or you can use Skrill, Neteller, PaySafeCard or Boku mobile payments. I like to see PayPal as it’s broadly used by UK players, but this is still a good selection.

Casumo does not have your usual loyalty system. I also found no VIP area, which high rollers will find disappointing, though personally I don’t mind- I prefer to see more offers for the everyman. The loyalty progression here is really quirky and fun, built around a kind of adventure.

I started out at the Hills of Odd, simply a point on a map, but playing more will move me along to the next landmark. Each one changes your account artwork, a very nice touch. There are several achievements to go with this, which range from fun items to customise your avatar to actual rewards like bonuses and free spins.

I had to search around a little to find contact information, as the site mostly directs you to live chat. The chat setup is fortunately very good, a nice bit of online software, just like the site itself. They also have an email, but no phone line.

The team seem to be very switched-on here and they were quick to answer a few generic questions. Fortunately, the site also has a very good FAQ page with detailed answers, which I like to see. They can often save time. I think the support setup is good here, it just needs to be slightly easier to access.

I’m very pleased with Casumo. Though there are some issues caused by over-design, with information being hard to find in places and certain things like promotions being stripped away, it’s refreshing to see a site that doesn’t follow the usual template. If you’re tired of the usual site and want something a little more quirky and light-hearted, this would be a good choice.

When it comes down to the crunch, the game selection is very broad and includes all the usual heavy hitters. I was glad to see a good table game offering as well as slots.

Traditionalists may not like the lack of VIP and straightforward loyalty points, but I think Casumo is on to something. I recommend this site for anyone who fancies a change.

Broad set of slot developers
Original, refreshing design
Fun ‘adventure’ reward system
Good mobile site

No formal VIP area
No regular promotions
