- How to make sure you buy the right tablet to spin those slots without having to spend hours doing your homework
- We help online casinos buy the right tablet based on battery power, design, value for money, durability and more
When tablets first arrived back in 2010 there was nothing understated about their arrival, their arrival was signalled by Apple launching the first iPad which stole the headlines and ever since the tablet express has been gaining pace and there is no chance its likely to hit the buffers.
Online casinos are seeing more and more players make the shift from desktop casino sites to mobile casinos or apps so it is no surprise the number of players spinning slot games or raising the pot on table games via their tablet is on the rise.
But with so many tablets on the market today, how do you pick the best tablet for playing online casino games, without spending hours browsing online or in store.
Factors such as battery power, design, value for money and durability all need to be considered before you make a purchase as they all help enhance the player experience at online casinos but you can only make the most of what operators have to offer with the right device.
With that in mind here is a list of the key information we think you need to know and you can also check out our guide to the best smartphones for online casino players while you are at it.
Apple iPad Pro 9.7
Apple promote the iPad Pro as being the “modern world personal computer” so it should be perfect for online casino players. The tech packed into their flagship product is great and whether you are playing on a mobile casino website or an app it won’t slow you down. For the best online casino experience, we recommend going for the 12.9-inch model but the 9.7-inch model is more portable and cheaper depending on your budget.
Battery life: 10 hours
Processor: A9X chip with 64-bit architecture and embedded M9 coprocessor
Storage: 32/128/256 GB
Screen size: 240mm x 169.5mm
Microsoft Surface Book
The surface book’s flagship feature is its 13.5“ PixelSense Display which is optimized for Pen and touch making the online casino experience incredibly immersive for players, especially on live table games such as live blackjack. Microsoft say the product combines the high performance power of a laptop and versatility of a tablet, it isn’t as portable as other models or as thin but if you want something powerful then the Surface Book is a good place to start but it isn’t cheap.
Battery life: 12 hours
Processor: 2.4GHz Intel Core i5-6300U
Screen size: 359mm x 247mm
Apple iPad Air 2
Not as powerful, or as eye-catching as the iPad Pro, but the Air model does the job at a significantly cheaper price and it is still powerful enough to support your favorite online casino games. Some live dealer games can eat into the battery life but the 9.7-inch screen size is large enough to bring the games to life at a reasonable price.
Battery life: 10 hours
Processor: A8X chip with 64-bit architecture and M8 motion coprocessor
Screen size: 169.5 x 240mm
Sony Xperia Z4
Sony’s Z4 tablet prides itself on the brand’s sound enhancing technologies, the brand are known for their High-Res Audio products and the tablet packs a digital noise cancelling pack that literally shuts out external noise perfect for playing casino games on the way to work without having to listen to everyone else on the train. The immersive experience offered by the Z4 was impressive and we couldn’t resist putting the waterproofing to the test. The Android™ tablet can be held under a tap for short periods and still work well, but we don’t recommend trying that home.
Battery life: 17 hours
Processor: Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 810
Storage: 32 GB
Screen size: 254mm x 167mm
Google Pixel C
Compact and speed were the two words that Google featured heavily in the marketing of the Pixel C tablet, its sleek design looks the part and is easy to carry around but does it compromise on performance? When testing we weren’t quite getting the 10 hour battery life as advertised, but it was more than powerful enough to load and respond to our commands when spinning slots like Hall of Gods.
Battery life: 10 hours
Processor: Quad-core 1.9 GHz
Storage: 32/64 GBGB
Screen size: 242mm x 179mm
Samsung Galaxy Tab S2
The Samsung Galaxy S2, is thinner and lighter than most tablets on the market and great packs decent storage thanks to the SD slot. The battery life isn’t great and while it is more expensive than its older sibling the tech upgrades are minimal, but it is the cheapest option in the market and you get a solid tablet for your money. It may not be as immersive as the Z4 or as sharp as the iPad pro but its value for money is second to none and the power is there to beat your mates at blackjack or baccarat on the Tube.
Battery life: 14 hours
Processor: Quad 1.9GHz + Quad 1.3GHz, Octacore application processor
Screen size: 169mm x 237.3mm
Although it may be an obvious choice, us at Casinopedia have to opt for Apple’s iPad pro 9.7. There are some great tablets out there at the moment and the Microsoft Surface Book and Google Pixel came particularly close to the iPad Pro but are not quite good enough to beat it. £549 may sound expensive but it is an ideal product for online casino players, we could not get over how great Mega Fortune looked on the device. Sadly we didn’t win Mega Fortune’s eye watering progressive jackpot when testing the tablet, but head over to LeoVegas if you want to try and bag the life changing jackpot for yourself, the price of the iPad Pro certainly wouldn’t be an issue after a big progressive video slot win.
