Apple’s new iPhone X and how it might enhance the online casino experience

  • iPhone X announced alongside iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus
  • New larger smartphone could lead to improvements in mobile gambling

Apple recently unveiled three new smartphones soon to hit the market – speedy, ultra modern and a great user experience is promised. But does any of this have any bearing on the online casino experience?

While all three of them have attracted considerable media attention, it’s the iPhone X, (pronounced ‘iPhone ten’) that seems to have got people talking the most.

Billed as a premium smartphone and costing a rather steep $999, it has a range of innovative features, including all-screen display, face recognition, augmented reality technology, wireless charging and even a dozen ‘Animojis’, emojis that are able to mimic your facial expressions.

Named in celebration of the iPhone’s 10th anniversary, the iPhone X is sure to be a big seller – but how could it affect mobile casinos?

Safety

Apple are so confident in the safety of Face ID, its advanced facial recognition technology, that they’re encouraging people to use it to ‘unlock, authenticate and pay’.

You can use it to unlock your smartphone, authenticate transactions and make payments with Apple Pay and other payment services. With Face ID, you can log in to your phone without having to manually input a password – instead, your face is the password.

According to Apple, it’s meant to be a lot more secure than fingerprint ID technology.

For mobile casino players that could mean a whole lot less stress if you are a victim of crime, fraud, or generally want an easy way to stay safe on your device while playing preferred online casinos.

Improved specs

As with every other iPhone, the iPhone X is set to offer more significantly improved specs than previous iterations of the smartphone.

Its many advanced features include Super Retina HD display, a 5.8-inch all-screen OLED display, a resolution of 2436×1125 pixels, HDR (high dynamic range) display and has a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio.

Along with this, it has an A11 Bionic chip and a six-core processor which will power things like the phone’s augmented reality technology, as well as 3D games.

All of these features will not only enable more advanced slots to run smoothly, they’ll also encourage developers to continue developing slots the push the boundaries of smartphone gameplay even further.

It could also mean a smoother live dealer casino – a faster device, though still limited by mobile networks, will never hurt the live streaming experience

Release date and price

Pre-orders for the iPhone X will begin on 27 October, with shipping starting on 3 November. The 64GB iPhone will be priced at $999, £999 and AU$1,579, whereas the 256GB iPhone will sell for $1,149, £1,149 and AU$1,829.
