- New network instantly doubles player base across cash tables and tournaments
- The industry first gives players the ‘best and most responsible poker experience’
The way we play poker keeps on evolving, with Playtech the latest developer to innovate and advance the game. A new Playtech-powered cross-border poker network – an industry first development – has this week gone live, with two European gaming companies leading the charge.
Finnish and Austrian players will now be able to experience the innovative poker network thanks to the efforts of Veikkaus and win2day, gaming brands from the two countries that both have worked with Playtech for a number of years.
More players, more excitement
The product of significant development, Playtech’s poker network will allow cash tables and tournaments to flourish. One of the cleverest things about the network is the way it allows the liquidity from multiple player bases – in this case those of Veikkaus and win2day – to be pooled. The result? More players involved in the game and more excitement as poker aficionados from multiple countries go head to head.
“This is a milestone in poker and the gaming industry, and we’re delighted to be at the heart of yet another industry-first providing two great brands with the leading poker network and a series of leading products that I’m confident will prove a huge success going forward.”
Shimon Akad, COO of Playtech
Due to the reliance on pooled liquidity, a feat which has not previously been attempted, the agreement had to be sanctioned by Finnish authorities before it could be given the go-ahead.
The best and most responsible poker experience
Historically, gaming companies such as Veikkaus and win2day have had to limit poker to domestic players only. Now, Finnish poker enthusiasts can look forward to competing against their Austrian counterparts. Veikkaus and win2day were a natural fit to launch the new poker network, for both brands have enjoyed long-standing relationships with Playtech.
Timo Kiiskinen, Senior Vice President at Veikkaus, said: “We are extremely happy with the overall product and the network’s performance so far, and are delighted to have launched on schedule. This is a great venture between ourselves, win2day and Playtech and we’re sure it will be a great success.”
In recent years, Playtech has worked to significantly develop its poker offering, working to improve its iPoker client by implementing a number of new features and enabling new game views to make the experience more life-like and user-friendly for the benefit of players.
Martin Jekl, Managing Director of win2day said: “Working with Veikkaus and Playtech has been a seamless process and we are very pleased with the results of the network in the first few days since launch. Our customers now have access to the best and most responsible poker experience on the market and we look forward to seeing what the rest of the year will bring.”
OUR VERDICT: It’s not every day you witness a true milestone in the industry, but this launch from Playtech and its partners is a big deal. And don’t be fooled into thinking it’s all about technology or something similar that you never really get to actually ‘experience’ when you’re playing at the online table. This is all about player experience. And that’s why it matters. Yes, the launch of this new network is a first in the history of online regulated poker in Europe – and that’s pretty impressive. But, most importantly, it’s about bringing players a level of experience that they’ve not had before. It’s about making the game more exciting, making it more lifelike and user friendly and giving you more options and ways of enjoying your poker. Do you really care if you get to play someone from another country? Perhaps not. But you should care that the world’s leading providers of online poker are intent on giving you the best experience possible. And, if it doubles the player base, and therefore your potential for winning, then that’s just an added bonus, right?
