- Former Argentine international tips Manchester United to win the Premier League
- Crespo backing Romelu Lukaku to claim Golden Boot
Hernán Crespo, the former Argentine international who won the English Premier League with Chelsea in 2006, is tipping Romelu Lukaku to fire Manchester United to the title in 2017-18.
Crespo made his prediction in a social media video for the Big Call series, produced with bookmaker BetStars in which sports stars including former footballers Wayne Bridge, Emile Heskey, Sol Campbell and seven-time World Snooker Champion Stephen Hendry offers their thoughts on major events.
United snatched the Everton striker Lukaku from under the noses of Premier League rivals Chelsea in one of the summer’s biggest football stories and Crespo believes that the signing of the big Belgian will give United the edge they need to claim the title.
Crespo is also backing Wayne Rooney to be player of the season, thanks to the ‘romantic story’ of the return to his boyhood club Everton.
Big money signings
There has certainly been plenty of support for United from football punters and their odds to win the Premier League have been falling all summer, thanks to a number of big money signings.
The Old Trafford giants are now generally priced up at the 7-2 mark by UK bookmakers, along with defending champions Chelsea.
Manchester City remain the strong favorites for the Premier League title and can generally be backed at 7-4 while Tottenham are at 10-1, Arsenal at 11-1 and Liverpool at 12-1 make up the remainder of the top six serious contenders, with Everton available as 80-1 outsiders.
Bookmakers have seen plenty of support for Lukaku in the Premier League top scorer market and he is now as short as 4-1 with many companies, but last year’s winner Harry Kane remains the favorite at around the 3-1 mark.
Manchester City stars Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus are available at odds of 7-1 and 9-1 respectively.
