- Wholesale giant offering tickets to Las Vegas clash
- Bookmakers pricing Mayweather as strong favorite to defeat McGregor
It may be best known for supplying industrial quantities of peanut butter, pasta or popcorn, but now Costco is making an unlikely entrance into the fight business.
On Wednesday, the company announced that it had tickets on sale for the upcoming clash between boxer Floyd Mayweather and UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor.
ESPN’s take on how both fighters can win this intriguing contest.
The wholesale giant is offering floor seats for the event, which takes place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on August 26, for $10,165, although their offer may not last for long as fight fans from all over the world scramble for tickets to this unlikely event.
The match up may not be one for the purists, but this clash of fighting styles and cultures has caught the imagination of fight fans and others across the globe, and is sure to offer compelling viewing, whatever the outcome, despite the fact that bookmakers and pundits alike seem to agree on what that outcome will be.
Mayweather can claim to be the greatest professional boxer of the modern era, and it has been many years since he was seriously challenged.
Along the way, he has dismantled the techniques of some of the best fighters in the world, and although McGregor is renowned in the UFC for the strength of his punching, few are giving him much of a chance.
Most US sportsbooks have McGregor priced at around +450 and in the UK, he’s generally available at 4-1, with Mayweather a massive favorite, as short as 1-7 in some places.
UK bookmakers are not predicting a quick fight, however, and based on the current odds, a Mayweather victory in the ninth or tenth round is considered to be the most likely outcome.
